SILO's Relationship Notes field is designed to capture high-level context and key insights about your relationship with the client. This is especially useful for reviewers, auditors, and senior management.

Best Practices for Using Relationship Notes

1. Record the Origin of the Relationship

  • How was the client introduced?

  • Was it through an introducer/referrer? If so, name them.

  • Was this an internal referral? Or legacy business?

2. Describe the Nature of the Relationship

  • What services are being provided?

  • What is the commercial context?

  • Are they part of a broader group relationship?

3. Explain Why You Took On This Client

  • Was it a commercial decision? Strategic alignment?

  • Was the client onboarded despite risk red flags? If so, note rationale.

4. Add Risk-Relevant Commentary

  • Are there known reputational risks?

  • Have there been any issues in the past?

  • Are there geographic or political concerns?

5. Keep It Factual, Concise, and Reviewable

  • Use clear, neutral language.

  • Avoid speculation or personal opinion.

  • Focus on facts that help with risk assessment or audit defense.

When to Use Relationship Notes

  • At onboarding, during profile creation

  • During periodic reviews or risk reassessments

  • When there is a change in the nature of the relationship

  • Following a Trigger Event or adverse media alert

  • Editing is typically restricted to compliance staff and approvers

Tips
